William Rathje: 50 years of the Garbage Project

Abstract

This article aims to bring Spanish-speaking readers closer to the work of William Rathje, considering that in 2023 the archaeologist's The Garbage Project will be 50 years old. The text contains the general outlines of the work of Rathje, creator of the social science of rubbish, and some counter-intuitive conclusions derived from the meticulous and rigorous studies of Rathje and his team in landfills and domestic rubbish in cities in the United States.
