Abstract

The Mayan Social War was the longest armed conflict in the Mexican southeast. It left's a mark on both the civilian population and the combatants. The history of this war has been told from different perspectives that have failed to focus on the experiences that women and children had at that time. For this reason, the main objective is to give a voice to this vulnerable sector of the population, in order to rescue the memory of women and children from oblivion. This paper reflects on the violence of war and characterizes the victims, it relies on testimonies documented in the past but also on narrations recorded in the present to make visible the adversities that were part of the life of the most affected population to sensitize new generations about what happened; recognize it, and contribute to the knowledge of this historical process from another perspective.
